Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Montreal (Dorval), 1900 Trans Canada Highway, Dorval (Quebec) H9P 2N4

"Managing employees’ vacations"

(round table)

This roundtable session will address a more tactical but yet important aspect of human resources management in the organisation. One of the biggest anxieties of HR practitioners is dealing with vacations. HR departments can be challenged by issues around development, maintenance and administration of effective vacation policies.

The session will start by covering the federal and provincial legislation related to vacation time and vacation pay. We will then compare experiences and examine the following issues and questions:

  • What are the elements of a good vacation policy? Have you revisited your vacation policy lately?

  • Administration of vacation at your organization – conditions governing how to take his annual leave (at one time, one week at a time, etc.)

  • Are you giving vacation in advance and can you collect potential overpayments upon termination?

  • Vacation carryover

  • Do you have different policies for different groups of employees?

  • Newest trends in managing vacations (unlimited vacation, vacation purchase plans, etc.)

The round table will be moderated by Ann Gagnon, Human Resources Director at MAAX Bath Inc. and Militsa Paunova, Human resources Manager at I.S.I. Controls Inc.
